Flew Frontier from Denver to Phoenix on basic fare with just a backpack. It was 17x13x7 inches and weighed about 22 pounds, well under the 35 pound limit. Fit easily under the seat and nobody bothered me about it. Totally free as advertised.
Forgot to add a carry-on when I booked and tried to bring my roller bag on. Gate agent measured it and said it was too big for a personal item. Had to pay the gate fee on the spot. Way more expensive than adding it during booking. Never again.
