Recent Traveller Feedback
Even with Wizz Priority my bag was checked at the gate — Priority doesn't exempt you from size limits. Staff mainly focus on non-Priority passengers, but if your bag doesn't fit the sizer you'll pay regardless. A soft bag 1 cm over might slip through at some airports, but I wouldn't count on it. Measure including wheels and handles before you go.
Forgot to add a checked bag online and had to pay at the airport for my 20 kg bag — cost 60 euros just for one way. Later checked and the same 20 kg bag would have been about 18 euros if I added it when booking. Total waste of money. Next time I will definitely book the 20 kg bag online in advance, even if I am not sure I need it.
60 EUR
I took my stroller through check-in, got a tag, and used it until the boarding door — staff then put it in the hold. On landing it came back at the aircraft door at one airport, but baggage reclaim at another. I also checked a car seat for free alongside the stroller. Only tiny Yoyo-style strollers might be allowed in the cabin; a normal-sized one won't fit.
My resealable bag was slightly over 1 litre but all bottles were under 100 ml — it passed at one airport but I was told at another that the bag itself must be a standard 1-litre one too. Liquid rules are enforced by airport security, not Wizz Air, and it really depends where you fly from.
My friend's trolley bag didn't fit the sizer and she was charged €60 at the gate — one way. The return flight was another €60, so it cost €120 total for both directions. Paying for the right baggage allowance when booking would have been much cheaper. One-time luck doesn't mean you'll get through on the next flight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is WIZZ Priority worth buying on Wizz Air?
WIZZ Priority lets you bring a 10 kg trolley bag measuring 55 × 40 × 23 cm for the overhead locker on top of your free personal item.
You also get to board earlier and use the priority check-in desk.
If your bag is too big at the gate and you do not have Priority, the fee to put it in the hold costs much more than buying Priority ahead of time.
If you travel with more than just a small under seat bag, buying Priority online early usually saves you money and stress.
Does Wizz Air weigh carry-on bags at the gate?
The small personal item that goes under the seat has no official weight limit.
The 10 kg trolley bag that comes with WIZZ Priority does have a weight limit.
How strict checks are depends on the airport. Some gates only check bag size with the sizer frame, while others also put cabin bags on the scale.
Packing light and staying under the 10 kg limit is the safest way to avoid extra charges.
Can I bring a backpack as my personal item on Wizz Air?
Yes, a backpack counts as your free personal item as long as it stays within 40 × 30 × 20 cm.
It must fit fully under the seat in front of you without sticking out.
Soft backpacks that bulge out from being overpacked can fail the size sizer at the gate even if the empty bag is within limits.
If you want to bring a bigger backpack or a trolley bag too, you will need to add WIZZ Priority to your booking.
How much does checked baggage cost on Wizz Air?
Wizz Air checked bag prices depend on the route, season and how far in advance you book. Booking online is always much cheaper than paying at the airport.
[object Object]
Prices go up a lot if you add bags later or at the airport. At the airport, a checked bag can cost around 60 euros or more.
If your bag is overweight at the airport, you pay 13 euros per extra kilogram. If an unbooked cabin bag turns up at the gate, it costs about 60 euros to put it in the hold.
What liquid rules apply on Wizz Air flights?
Wizz Air follows standard European Union security rules for liquids in carry on luggage.
Each passenger may carry liquids in containers of no more than 100 ml each stored in a single transparent resealable one litre plastic bag.
Enforcement depends on the departure airport security team rather than the airline itself so rules may feel stricter at some locations than others.
What is Wizz Air carry-on baggage allowance?
Every passenger on every fare receives one free personal item measuring up to 40 x 30 x 20 cm that must fit completely under the seat in front.
Passengers with WIZZ Priority or fares that include it may also bring one trolley bag for the overhead bin measuring 55 x 40 x 23 cm and weighing up to 10 kg.
The airline does not publish a separate weight limit for the under seat personal item on its official website.
How much free checked baggage comes with each Wizz Air fare?
Basic and WIZZ Smart fares do not include any free checked baggage at all and bags must be purchased separately.
WIZZ Go includes one standard checked bag weighing up to 20 kg per passenger.
WIZZ Plus includes one larger checked bag weighing up to 32 kg which is the heaviest included allowance available.
Additional bags can be added online in 10 kg 20 kg 26 kg or 32 kg increments up to six per passenger.
What is the difference between the four Wizz Air fare bundles?
Basic is the cheapest option and only includes the under seat personal item with no trolley bag and no checked baggage.
WIZZ Go adds one 20 kg checked bag plus seat selection and is the most popular choice for most economy travellers.
WIZZ Smart includes WIZZ Priority for the trolley bag plus seat selection but does not come with any checked baggage for light packers.
WIZZ Plus is the top bundle with WIZZ Priority a 32 kg checked bag premium seats and flexible flight changes.
How strictly does Wizz Air enforce carry-on size at the gate?
Wizz Air is widely known for strict gate checks especially on busy flights and at base airports across Central and Eastern Europe.
Non Priority passengers with bags that do not fit the sizer frame are charged a gate fee and the bag must be placed in the hold.
Even Priority passengers are not exempt from size rules and can be charged if their trolley bag exceeds the official 55 x 40 x 23 cm limit.
Soft sided bags slightly over may pass at some airports but travellers should not rely on this and should measure including wheels and handles.
