Recent Traveller Feedback
At the gate, easyJet staff asked me to place my cabin bag in the sizer. It did not fit because I had not included the wheels and side pockets in my measurement, so they charged 48 pounds to put it in the hold. I later found out adding a 23kg hold bag online costs as little as 10 pounds if you book early, way cheaper than paying at the gate or the airport desk.
48 GBP
I was worried my large cabin bag might be too heavy but there was no weight check at all at the gate. The crew did say you have to be able to lift it into the overhead bin by yourself because they cannot help you with lifting bags.
I traveled with my baby and they checked our stroller and car seat for free — up to 2 infant items are allowed. I also brought a changing bag within 45 × 36 × 20 cm. Security inspected the baby milk and food separately but let it through.
I got stopped at security because my toiletry bag exceeded the 100 ml per container rule. The staff explained this is an airport rule, not an easyJet one. I now pack full-size shampoo and shower gel in my checked bag instead.
On my first easyJet flight, I assumed my bag would not be measured and bought extra baggage at the airport — both mistakes cost me. Now I always measure including wheels and handles, add bags online in advance, and check the departure airport own liquid rules separately from what the airline says.
My easyJet flight from Barcelona to London Gatwick was delayed over four hours because of a technical problem with the plane. I saved every single receipt for food, drinks and a last minute hotel room, then filed an EU261 claim through the easyJet website. Got about 250 euros in compensation three weeks later. Definitely keep all your receipts, even small ones like coffee and snacks, they all count.
250 EUR
Almost missed my flight because I showed up too late to drop my bag. easyJet bag drop closes 40 minutes before departure at most airports, and the gate closes 30 minutes before. I thought I had plenty of time but the security line was really long. Now I always arrive two hours early and check in online 30 days before like they recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the easyJet large cabin bag worth buying?
The large cabin bag lets you bring a bigger trolley bag of 56 × 45 × 25 cm to stow in the overhead locker.
You cannot buy the large cabin bag at the airport. You must add it to your booking online before you fly.
The price changes by route and how busy the flight is, and it goes up the closer you get to departure.
If you need more space than just a small under seat bag, adding it online early costs much less than paying the gate fee.
Can I bring a backpack and a carry-on bag on easyJet?
On a Standard fare, you can only carry one small bag that fits under the seat in front of you.
A backpack counts as your one cabin bag even if you wear it on your shoulders.
If you pay for the large cabin bag or book a Flexi fare, you can bring both an under seat item and a trolley bag for the overhead locker.
Both bags must stay within their size limits to pass the gate sizer check.
What baby items can I bring for free on easyJet?
You can check in up to 2 infant items completely free per child.
Free baby items include a pushchair or stroller, car seat, travel cot, booster seat and baby back carrier.
These items do not count towards your regular baggage allowance.
You still keep your own full cabin bag allowance on top of the free baby items.
How much does easyJet charge for checked bags and extra weight?
easyJet hold bag prices depend on the route, how busy the flight is and how far in advance you book. Booking online is always much cheaper than paying at the airport.
A 15 kg hold bag starts from about 7 pounds when added online, and a 23 kg bag starts from about 10 pounds. Prices go up as the flight gets closer to departure.
At the airport, adding a hold bag costs around 48 to 55 pounds per item. If an unbooked large cabin bag shows up at the gate, it costs 48 pounds to put it in the hold.
If your bag is heavier than your booked weight, excess weight costs 12 pounds per kilogram at the airport. You can add extra weight online in 3 kg steps for less money.
What time does bag drop close and when do I need to check in?
Online check-in opens 30 days before your flight and closes 2 hours before departure. You can check in through the easyJet app or website and download your boarding pass.
Bag drop desks usually open 2 hours before your flight and close 40 minutes before departure at most airports. Some airports and routes have different closing times, like 60 minutes for certain destinations.
The boarding gate closes strictly 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time. If you arrive after that, you will not be allowed to board even if you have already checked in.
easyJet recommends arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight to leave enough time for security and bag drop.
What happens if my easyJet flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your flight is delayed by 3 hours or more, or cancelled with less than 14 days notice, you may be entitled to compensation under EU Regulation 261. The amount ranges from 250 euros to 600 euros depending on how far you are flying.
You can also claim back reasonable expenses you had to pay because of the delay, like meals, drinks, hotel rooms or transport. Always keep all your receipts because you will need them to make a claim.
easyJet handles claims through their website. You will need your booking reference, flight details and all receipts for expenses.
Compensation does not apply if the delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances outside the airline control, like severe weather or air traffic control strikes.
What carry-on bags can I bring on easyJet?
Every passenger on every fare receives one small cabin bag that fits under the seat with maximum dimensions of 45 x 36 x 20 cm including wheels and handles.
There is no official weight limit for the under seat bag but you must be able to lift and carry it yourself and stow it safely during the flight.
A larger trolley bag measuring 56 x 45 x 25 cm for the overhead locker can be added during booking or is automatically included with Flexi fares.
There is no set weight limit for the large cabin bag either, but you must be able to lift it into the overhead bin completely by yourself because cabin crew are not allowed to help with lifting bags.
How much checked baggage comes with my easyJet ticket?
No checked baggage is included with either Standard or Flexi fares and all hold bags must be purchased separately.
Passengers can choose between a 15 kg and a 23 kg hold bag when booking online with additional weight available in 3 kg increments.
Each checked bag must stay within 275 cm of total linear dimensions calculated as length plus width plus height.
Every passenger can book up to three hold bags online and booking in advance is always significantly cheaper than paying at the airport.
What extra benefits does the Flexi fare offer?
Flexi includes the large overhead cabin bag at no extra cost so passengers can bring both an under seat item and a trolley bag.
The fare also allows free flight changes up to two and a half hours before departure and includes an allocated seat.
Flexi customers also get Fast Track security at many major airports across the easyJet network for quicker screening.
Hold luggage is still not included and must be added separately even on Flexi fares.
How strictly does easyJet check carry-on bag sizes at the gate?
easyJet regularly uses bag sizer frames at boarding gates especially on busy routes and peak travel periods throughout the year.
Bags that do not fit within the official under seat dimensions may be placed in the hold and incur a gate fee.
Flexi passengers and those who have paid for the large cabin bag still need to ensure their bag fits within the 56 x 45 x 25 cm limit.
Measuring bags at home including all wheels handles and external pockets is the best way to avoid unexpected charges on departure day.
What liquid rules apply on easyJet flights?
easyJet follows standard European Union security regulations for all liquids carried in hand luggage.
Each passenger may carry liquids in containers of no more than 100 ml each stored in a single transparent resealable one litre plastic bag.
These rules are enforced by airport security staff rather than the airline itself so enforcement can vary slightly between departure airports.
Larger quantities of liquids toiletries and other essentials can always be packed safely in checked hold luggage instead.
All baggage rules on this page are from the official easyJet website. Last updated August 8, 2026. Before you fly, please check the official site again to make sure nothing has changed.
