Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Austrian Airlines Economy Basic fare include a carry-on bag?

No, Economy Basic on short- and medium-haul flights includes only 1 personal item up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm, with no cabin bag at all.
You can add a cabin bag online via My Bookings or through the Service Center before your flight, but it cannot be purchased at the airport.
All other Economy fares include 1 cabin bag up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 8 kg plus the personal item.

How much checked baggage is free on Austrian Airlines?

Economy Basic and Economy Light include no free checked bag on any route.
On European flights, Economy Comfort and Flex include 1 bag up to 23 kg. On long-haul flights, Economy Classic and Flex include 1 x 23 kg, Premium Economy 2 x 23 kg, Business 2 x 32 kg and First Class 3 x 32 kg.
Every checked bag must stay within 158 cm when you add height, width and depth together.

What is the carry-on size and weight limit on Austrian Airlines?

One cabin bag up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 8 kg is allowed on all Economy fares except Economy Basic, plus 1 personal item up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
Business and First Class passengers may bring 2 cabin bags of the same size and weight plus the personal item.
All dimensions include wheels, handles and pockets, and gate staff regularly use bag sizers on full flights.

What happens if my bag is over 23 kg or oversized on Austrian Airlines?

In Economy and Premium Economy, a bag between 24 and 32 kg or between 158 and 292 cm counts as excess baggage and is charged a route-based fee.
Bags over 32 kg are never accepted as checked baggage and must be sent as air freight instead.
Bags larger than 158 cm must be registered with Austrian in advance, and buying extra bags online before the flight is cheaper than paying at the airport.

What is the infant baggage allowance on Austrian Airlines?

Infants under two years get one free checked bag up to 23 kg and 158 cm on all fares except Economy Light.
One collapsible stroller, carrying basket or car seat per booked infant travels free of charge on top of the normal allowance.
Excess baggage cannot be purchased for infants at all.
