Recent Traveller Feedback
My cabin bag was 2 cm too tall for the 55 x 40 x 23 cm sizer at the Riga gate and staff made me check it into the hold. airBaltic charges a flat EUR 75 at the gate when your cabin bag is over the size or weight limit, no negotiating. Measure your bag including wheels and handles before you leave home.
75 EUR
Showed up at Riga airport with a 31 kg suitcase on a Basic ticket. A standard checked bag costs EUR 75 at the airport and the heavy baggage fee for anything over 23 kg is another EUR 60, so I paid EUR 135 in total for one direction. Buying the bag online while booking would have been much cheaper.
135 EUR
Booked the cheap Economy MINI fare from Riga to Vilnius and almost got caught out - it only includes one small personal item of 40 x 30 x 15 cm that must fit under the seat, no cabin bag at all. I packed everything into a small backpack within the 8 kg total limit and sailed through boarding.
Watch out - on airBaltic the 8 kg limit covers your cabin bag AND your personal item together, not each one. At the Riga to Berlin flight they weighed my roller bag and laptop bag on the same scale. Mine came to 8.4 kg combined so I moved a charger into my jacket and passed.
Flew Riga to Oslo with our baby and airBaltic took the collapsible stroller for free. Because an infant was on the booking we could also check one bag up to 10 kg for the baby at no cost, and the agent let us pool it with my allowance. A carrycot or car seat would have been free instead of the stroller too.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the airBaltic Mini fare include a cabin bag?
No, Economy Mini only includes 1 small personal item up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm that must fit under the seat in front of you.
Economy Basic, Classic and Flex fares include 1 cabin bag up to 55 x 40 x 23 cm plus the personal item.
The 8 kg limit is a combined total for your cabin bag and personal item together, and all dimensions include wheels, handles and pockets.
How much checked baggage is included with airBaltic tickets?
Economy Mini and Basic include no checked baggage at all - you have to buy bags separately.
Economy Classic includes 1 checked bag up to 23 kg, while Economy Flex and Business Class include 2 bags with a combined total of 46 kg and up to 32 kg per bag.
Each checked bag can measure up to 100 x 50 x 80 cm, which is 230 cm in total linear dimensions.
How much does airBaltic charge for checked bags and overweight bags?
Checked bag prices vary by route and sales channel, and buying online while booking is always cheaper than paying at the airport.
At the airport a standard checked bag costs 75 EUR, and bags over 23 kg up to 32 kg add a 60 EUR heavy baggage fee, so one heavy bag can cost 135 EUR per direction.
If your cabin bag is found oversize or overweight at the gate, it is checked into the hold for a flat 75 EUR fee.
Can I bring more than 8 kg of cabin baggage on airBaltic?
Yes, Economy passengers can buy the heavy cabin baggage option and raise the combined cabin allowance from 8 kg to 12 kg for an extra fee.
Upgrading to 12 kg also gives you priority boarding right after Business Class passengers, and the number of pieces and dimensions stay the same.
Business Class passengers already get 2 cabin bags plus a personal item with a 24 kg combined limit.
What can I bring for free when flying airBaltic with a baby?
When an infant or child is on your reservation, one fully collapsible stroller or pram, a carrycot or a child car seat travels free of charge.
Infants also get one free checked bag up to 10 kg, and one adult can pool their baggage allowance with the infant.
If your trip includes a stopover in Riga longer than 24 hours, checked baggage fees apply to each flight separately.
